essential beliefs
We believe that God, who exists as the Trinity, is the creator of all existence. God is the loving creator and ruler of all that exists: both the seen and unseen, Heaven and Earth. As both creator and father, God passionately desires a loving relationship with man. God is all knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present. God exists as the Trinity: The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The combination of these three are co-equal and are one God.
We believe that Jesus, both fully God and man, died for our sins, rose from the dead & will return. God expressed Himself to man through sending His only son, Jesus Christ. Christ was born of the Virgin Mary; therefore, He is both God and man. Jesus was the Messiah prophesied of in the Old Testament. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, ultimately dying as a sacrifice for both the past and future sins of mankind on the cross. He was buried, and rose from the dead three days later as demonstration of His power over sin. Jesus then ascended to Heaven, where He presides at the right hand of God. Jesus will one day come again.
We believe the Holy Spirit resides in believers, and assists them in the work of Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is sent from God, to men at the point of salvation. The Spirit helps the believer discern right and wrong; convicting the world of sin, righteousness and judgment. The Holy Spirit also empowers the believer through teaching, comforting, regeneration, and equipping the believer for ministry. The Spirit does this through giving each believer a set of spiritual gifts, of which, there is no one better than the other. The Holy Spirit uses these gifts to foster unity, interdependence, integrity, and love among believers.
We believe God revealed, and still reveals, Himself to people through His perfect Word, the Bible. God, using man, authored the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. Through Scripture, God has given man a glimpse of His character and will. The Bible contains all truth, and is the final authority for faith and life for the believer.
We believe that mankind, created in the perfect image of God, was made imperfect through sin. All mankind was created with dignity, value, and was destined to live in everlasting relationship with God, their Creator. Mankind was the supreme object of God’s creation. As a consequence of the sin of Adam, mankind fell from the perfect relationship, instead inheriting a sin-filled nature. Being created in the image of God means, however, that even though man is fallen, they have tremendous value in the sight of God.
We believe that only the sacrifice of Jesus Christ can bring people back into relationship with God. The fallen nature of man has broken the relationship between man and God. Seeing this, God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to be the sacrifice that atones man in the sight of God. Jesus Christ restores the broken relationship between man and God. Only through the salvation Christ offers can man receive forgiveness from God. This reconciliation is the ultimate act of God’s grace, therefore, there is nothing man can do but receive this grace.
We believe the Church is the community of believers redeemed & restored into relationship with God. Through the work of Jesus Christ, man has been brought back into relationship with God, given eternal life, and brought into community with each other. This community is called the Church. The Church is universal among all believers. The Church is called to represent Jesus to the rest of fallen mankind by lovingly living out His teachings, and making disciples in the process.
We believe that all people were created to live in relationship with God forever. We are all designed to live forever. Every person will either live eternally separated from God, or eternally in relationship with God. Eternal separation is Hell, whereas eternal relationship is Heaven.
